In the beginning…
All of my life I have been struggling with my weight. At a young age, I was always the chubby one of the class, albeit sport – but chubby.
Running the kitchen at a Sports Bar during my undergraduate days didn’t do much good for my waistline. However, it whetted my appetite for cooking.
Many years have passed since and cooking has been my steady companion. Whenever I travel I love to taste new dishes and then try to recreate them and add my own twist.
I have a beautiful financé, who happily puts up with my weight. Nonetheless, I have been trying to get healthy for her, at least to enjoy life more.
But the thing that really got me was an article in the Guardian mentioning that obesity increased the chances of complications from COVID-19 and that a potential vaccine may not be effective. To be honest, that scared the shit out of me.
I want to be able to grow old with Giulia, have children, and enjoy our life together. Not live in constant fear of my weight leading to health complications.
Enough was enough
So, I finally understood that enough was enough. It was time for me to seriously consider losing weight and get healthy.
But what do you do?
I decided to turn to the one thing that I knew… cooking. Hence the birth of Cooking With Gunnar. Falling back on my decades of cooking experience, I decided to start this blog for two reasons. The first was to help others who are struggling with the same difficulties as me.
If I can inspire or assist one other person to lose weight and live a healthier life, then the journey has been worth it.
The second reason is accountability. I find it easy to start a project, go all out on it only to see my enthusiasm thin out. In the end, I lose interest. To not let this happen, I will post weekly updates with my meal and exercise diaries, photos, and vital stats.
Hopefully, you will find something of value on these pages, if you do, leave a comment, give me a thumbs up, or send an encouraging message.
If you like one of my low-calorie (but very very tasty) recipes, please consider sharing it, leaving a review, or pinning it to your Pinterest.
It would help me tremendously to see that my blog is having an impact on other people.
Love,
Gunnar 🙂
